Arrival:
Participants are expected to arrive on April 08 (Thursday), 2010.

Arrival by plane:
The nearest international (and domestic) airport from Tuebingen is Stuttgart Airport (STR).
A cheap and convenient connection from Stuttgart Airport to Tuebingen is Bus no. 828, which departs just in front of the airport’s exit. This bus departs at 19 and 49 minutes past the full hour between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. with two exceptions: no bus runs at 10:49 a.m. and 1:19 p.m.. After 6 p.m. the schedule changes to 19 and 38 minutes past the full hour, the last bus goes at 11.28 p.m. The bus’ final destination is Tuebingen Main Station/Central bus station. The journey to Tuebingen takes a little less than hone hour and the fare is 5.30 €. The ticket can be purchased from the bus driver.
Alternatively, a taxi ride from Stuttgart Airport to Tuebingen takes about 35 minutes and costs between 45.- € and 55.- €.
If you come from outside the EURO-zone and need to change money, you can find a bank, the “ReiseBank”, which specializes in currency change. It is located in the public area of terminal 1, level 2, opening hours are 8.30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you arrive at Frankfurt International Airport, Germany’s biggest airport, you have to take the train to Tuebingen (main station), which will cost 65.- € and take between two and three hours to Tuebingen, depending on connections. The tickets can be purchased in the regional train station in Terminal 1, B Concourse, Level 0 and the long-distance train station on Level 3 of the AIRail Terminal. Information and reservations available in both DB TravelCenters, which are open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are also available from the machines in the regional train station in Terminal 1, B Concourse, Level 0 and the long-distance train station in the AIRail Terminal. Local transportation / Arrival by train:
If you arrive in Tuebingen by train, you will find the central bus station (Zentraler Omnibusbahnhof (ZOB)) right in front of the train station. Bus tickets can be purchased from a ticket vending machine on the bus. A single trip ticket is 2.- € and a one day ticket comes at 4.- €. It is valid a whole day for an unlimited number of rides. Note that the machine accepts coins only. Ticket vending machines can be found outside of the station entrance. Single tickets and one day tickets are automatically validated upon purchase.

Lessingweg 3 can be reached by bus nos. 3 and 4 (direction: WHO Ulmenweg): get off at “Engelfriedshalde”, cross the street there and then walk back downhill, take the street diverging to the right (“Obere Schillerstraße”), where the main road turns left, and then turn right at first occasion, which is Lessingweg. The Guesthouse is the second house on the left side. In other words: walk from here to here.

To get from the guesthouse to Hohentuebingen Castle on the first day take  bus nos. 3 and 4 back (direction “Nelkenweg” on bus no. 3, direction “Wennfelder Garten” on bus no. 4) to “Stadtgraben”. Then walk up to the Castle via Schmidtorstrasse, Judengasse, Haaggasse, and a small stairway up to Burgsteige.

Coming from the main station, Hotel Hospiz is best reached by taxi, if you have much luggage. Alternatively, you can take a 10 min. walk from the train station/ bus station to the Hotel, via Karlstraße, Eberhard-Bridge, Neckargasse, Holzmarkt, and Kronenstrasse.

Basically, all participants will be accommodated in these two places according to the dates given in the registration. Where dates hadn’t been given in the registration, accommodation was booked for the two nights of the conference, i.e. from Apil 8 to 10. If you want to change the dates for your stay at Hotel Hospiz, please get into contact with the Hotel directly. If you want to change something about your stay at the university guesthouse, please contact Stefan Braig.

Weather in Tuebingen:

The weather in Tuebingen in early April is usually warm and pleasant, with the temperatures around 15 °C. However, there may also be some rainy and/or windy days and the temperatures may fall to 10 °C. Participants are advised to have an umbrella and perhaps also some weatherproof clothing along. For all participants interested in sightseeing we would suggest having comfortable shoes when walking on the cobble stones of Tuebingen's historic city center.


Further Information:
We would like to remind all overseas participants that the voltage in the Germany is 220 V and the sockets may differ in shape in comparison to other countries. Please check it before arrival.
