The ERCCT'S 6th Taiwan Documentary Film Festival took place on Friday and Saturday, May 20/21, again putting together an harmonious ensemble of intriguing documentaries and a fictional film.

After welcoming remarks by Prof. Shen Cen-Chu, Director of the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the Federal Republic of Germany, Berlin, by the ERCCT Director, Prof. Gunter Schubert, the program started with the first work of this year’s special guest, Documentary film director and producer Chung Chuan (鍾權) from Taiwan.

The work of Chung, who graduated from the Department of Documentary Film at the Beijing Film Academy, so far has centered on the topics of societal relations between the Taiwanese and mainland Chinese people, and how the complexities of the Taiwanese national identity issue unfold themselves during international sport events. The two-piece documentary “The Affair of Three Cities” by Chung opened the festival program on Friday and his latest work “The Chai-Wan Match-up” (我們) rounded off on Saturday.

The audience which comprised people from Taiwan, Germany, as well as China and Japan, eagerly made use of the opportunity to discuss with Mr. Chung on both days of the festival, to get an even deeper understanding about his background, motivation and the circumstances under which he filmed and produced his documentaries. Works by He Chaoti (My fancy High Heels) and Kuo Liang-yin (Shonenko - Emerald Horizon) comple-mented the festival program together with the lively comedy “Orzboys” by Yang Ya-che (楊雅喆), about the real and imaginary worlds shared by two very boldfaced kids from the Danshui riverside.
