Prof. Thomas Fröhlich held lecture to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the R.O.C.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Fröhlich from the Chair for Sinology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg on Thursday, Nov. 4th, came to Tuebingen and gave a public lecture to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of China. In his lecture that was entitled "Die Krise der Republik China nach 1912: Reaktionen im Zeichen von Fortschrittsoptimismus" [The Crisis of the Republic of China after 1912: reactions out of belief in progress], Prof. Fröhlich, a renouned expert in the intellectual history of China, especially with regard to political thinking, showed that and how politicians and intellectuals of varying idoelogical outlook were intellectually united by a strong underlying belief in progress and the manageability of China's future by the historical subject during in the early years of the republic, and thus facing the national present and future very optimistically depite all odds.
